O'SIYO!

Site Purpose

This site is my way of expressing myself, while trying to open up the world of the Native American. Through history, music links and pictures, I hope to connect the non-native world to us. My wife is the perfect example, She is Swedish, full blood, but she loves everything Native American as well. I hope you enjoy the site and learn somethings unknown to you before visiting.

 About Your Host

My Mother is Cherokee and my father is half Cherokee. My great-great Grandmother (on my mother's side) was Nancy Dove. She was a peace activist for both sides, the whites and the natives, she was pursecuted for her work. The Cherokee did'nt want her and the whites turn their backs on her. My Grand-Mother was Willie Roe. A little Cherokee woman who spoke of the old days and of things we should do to better ourselves in the future.

Myself, My white name is Shane Huggins. My Cherokee name is Tsu li tsv ya s di Ta wo di (Brave Hawk).  I served 3 years in the US Coast Guard, before being medical retired, due to an injury I recieved while on active duty. I am proud to be Cherokee and proud to be a Coastie. I love to fish and do things in nature. Well enough about me, back to the site. Thanks for coming and enjoy your time with me and let me know what you think.

POW-WOWS ARE GREAT!

This dancer is performing a dance called the "Hoop Dance." This dance is beautiful as well as full of meaning. The hoop signifies the circle of life, on going and never broken. If you stand in one spot and turn 360 degrees, you will see the horizon. There may be a mountain, a tree, a building or a person in your line of sight, but the horizon is always there.  It is up to all of us, natives and non-natives to keep the hoop unbroken!
